Submissions

Stanford and non-Stanford undergraduates are invited to submit existing writing pieces or an article pitch for consideration by our publication. We welcome writing from various disciplines, including but not limited to International Relations, Political Science, History, Philosophy, and Law, but encourage that submissions be relevant to current international affairs matters. We will focus on the topics of Global Peace & Security, International History & Culture, World Economy, Energy & Environment, International Law & Human Rights, and Comparative Governance & Development.

Submissions will be reviewed on a rolling basis by SJIA editors, and we will reach out individually once a preliminary decision has been made regarding your submission. Papers will be evaluated according to the following criteria: originality/novelty of argument, strength/quality of argument, and the quality of sources and overall research. See below for more details regarding evaluation criteria for pitches. Each accepted article will go through an editorial review and revision process before publication.

Submission Guidelines:

• Papers up to 6,500 words in length are eligible for publication. Op-eds/editoral pieces (800 – 1500 words) will be published on our website only. 

• Submissions must conform to the 9th edition of the Modern Language Association Handbook (MLA) for all footnotes and citations. We will accept submissions with different citation styles, but authors of selected publications will be required to adapt their papers to MLA. 

• Upload documents as Word files. 

• Individuals may submit up to two papers for consideration.

• Recent graduates may submit work written during their undergraduate studies.

• If your submission has been selected by another publication, please let us know immediately. SJIA does not republish articles.
